Student Loans and Grants

We administer a range of loans and grants to assist students including:

Emergency Loans

Short term, small loans to assist with items such as food, weekly bus/train tickets, rent, bills, medicine and books – conditions apply

Student Loans

Interest-free loans up to $500 (unsecured) or up to $2000 (secured) – conditions apply. For more information see

Equal Access Grant Scheme

To assist study-related expenses for low-income undergraduate students entering University for the first time  - applications can be lodged throughout the year with decisions made after the census date in each semester. An interview with a staff member is required.

Critical Needs Grants

For disadvantaged students who have an urgent, short term, financial crisis. The grant can make a contribution towards costs related to health, accommodation, food, transport and utilities. It is a one off grant that can relieve the pressure of the urgent situation whilst longer term plans and resolutions are put in place. This grant is available for all students including International students, those on humanitarian visas, or other non-resident visas. Strict conditions apply and an application interview is required.

A R Riddle Scholarship

Available to students who are commencing the last semester of their Honours or postgraduate coursework programs in the current year. Students must be able to establish financial need and provide supporting documentation.

Applicants are requested to contact Student Care to make an appointment for a short interview to discuss their application. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of income and verification of expenses they are requesting assistance with.

To support one-off requests for study-related financial assistance, the panel meets to consider applications on a monthly basis – students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit.
