Uniting Communities' Aboriginal Community Connect (ACC) program is a culturally specific Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families. Our team work closely with Aboriginal communities in the area to ensure that people remain connected to family and community while they're developing new skills. People will have opportunities to connect to resources to meet their health, education, employment and social needs.

As an Aboriginal Community Connect volunteer, you will be asked to provide the best possible service, while participating co-operatively as a member of the team and behaving in line with the values of Uniting Communities. You will work with all clients, staff and the public in a respectful manner that demonstrates an understanding of Uniting Communities' Vision and values. You will undertake assigned activities to ensure the day-to-day functioning of the assigned area(s).

The following list is a guide as to the duties that may be asked of a volunteer:

  • Provide a friendly, efficient service to clients
  • Assist the Group-work Coordinator(s) as directed, which may include helping in Art & Craft Classes, The Community Garden, the Pop up CafĂ©, SMART Recovery and other Group-work events and classes.
  • Provide support to those clients requiring assistance and make referrals to other to other staff members where applicable.
  • Present Aboriginal Community Connect in an efficient, professional and caring manner
  • Assist in keeping the office and shed clean and tidy and in keeping with WHS requirements.
  • Assist by answering the telephone on occasion
  • You may be asked to help out at various festivals and events from time to time, including initial set up and close down.
  • Be well groomed and presented
  • Carry out other duties as delegated

Special Conditions:

  • Engagement is conditional on incumbents undertaking new Police checks every 3 years, or when requested, which results in a satisfactory report according to the organization's requirements.
  • Where we have concerns that your level of fitness is adversely affecting your job performance we may require, at our cost, that you submit to a Fitness Capacity Evaluation to ensure that neither you nor a fellow staff member nor a client are placed at risk of injury.
  • A current driver's license is preferred but is not a requirement of the position.
