Southern Cross Care is looking for volunteers to assist with the Walk around Australia Project.

The ‘Walk around Australia’ program was originally the brainchild of Heather McKibbin, General Manager at Bupa’s Bellarine aged-care facility. It has now been adopted by Southern Cross Care (SA/NT) as a general activity for residents to participate in, with their progress plotted on a map of Australia. The Walk Around Australia volunteer position involves working with the lifestyle team to help run walking groups, and promoting a friendly, social atmosphere for group exercise.

The position would involve leading walking groups, or accompanying individuals who require extra assistance to participate. It would also involve recording the distances walked by residents to promote active lifestyles and contribute to the collective effort of 'Walking around Australia'. This volunteer position would best suit those with clear communication skills, patience and empathy.

All volunteers require a police certificate for the purposes of Aged Care.

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to assist older residents to continue enjoying independence, fun and dignity – we would love to hear from you.
